How will you load your storage?
Pallet racking is typically used for goods stored on pallets and placed with handling equipment. Longspan shelving is generally arranged for items loaded and picked by hand, such as cartons, components and bulky goods. Your loading method is a useful starting point.
Match the system to your items
Consider item size, weight and how often each product is accessed. Hand-loaded does not automatically mean lightweight: shelf specifications still need to match the intended loads. Ask your supplier to confirm suitable load ratings.
You may need both
Many warehouses use pallet racking for bulk stock and shelving for picking smaller quantities. Discuss the relationship between those areas, including replenishment routes and access, when planning a layout.
